How Classic timelines are structured

A quick overview of Classic timelines, and how timelines, events and timespans fit together in our legacy editor

Updated over a month ago

Classic timelines are no longer being developed, and we no longer offer plans that include access to the Classic editor.

For new timelines, we recommend using the current Timetoast experience. To learn more, see creating a timeline project.

Classic timelines are the original Timetoast timelines. They're simple, event-based timelines for stories, biographies and historical overviews.

In Classic Timetoast, event and timespan fields are fixed and can't be changed.

Here are the main pieces:

Timelines

A timeline is the main container. It holds all of your events and timespans, along with settings like the title, description and cover image. Each Classic timeline usually represents one topic, person or period in time.

Events

Events are individual points on your timeline. Each event has a date, a title, and an optional description and/or image.

Timespans

Timespans represent something that lasts over a period of time, rather than happening on a single date. Each timespan has a start and end date, plus a title and optional description. Timespans can't have image assigned to them.
